Zhangzhou offers barge service to Port of Xiamen
¡¡¡¡Southeast China¡¯s Fujian provincial port city Zhangzhou offers a barge service to larger international port of Xiamen.The service has already transported 8,136 TEU since it started trails in July last year.
¡¡¡¡The manager of a local export company said the new service can help shippers to save as much as RMB200 per TEU.
¡¡¡¡The Zhangzhou customs said China has more export than import cargo, which results in more empty boxes on the returning containerships. The service can make use of these boxes by carrying wood log and other import cargo to the port of Zhangzhou for distribution.
