¡¡¡¡According to figures in the recently issued 2007 China Shipping Development Report by the Ministry of Transport, during 2007 Chinese ports accomplished 1.85 billion tons of cargo throughput, up by 14.6% over 2006, with the growth rate dropping by 3.5%. At the same time, an accelerated growth in domestic trade throughput has been promoted by the increasing domestic consumer demand. Domestic trade cargo throughput by ports nationwide mounted to 4.561 billion tons, rising 15.3% since 2006, not only 1.9% but for the first time has it also surpassed growth in foreign trade cargo throughput. The national port cargo throughput reached 6.41 billion tons, up 15.1% on 2006. ¡¡¡¡During 2007, the national port cargo throughput reached 114 million TEUs, up by 22.3% compared with 2006, maintaining the growth rate of more than 20%.
